Michael Jackson And Mariah Care Unreleased Duet

Mariah Carey has confirmed that she recorded an unreleased duet with Michael, but the track is being held back by his estate. Speaking on Watch What Happens Live while promoting her new album, Carey said the song “isn’t in the vault, it’s right there,” explaining that the estate is delaying its release due to a “huge” project they’re planning around Michael’s legacy. The promotion she referred to is likely connected to next year’s upcoming biopic.

It wasn’t clear whether the duet is a reimagining of one of Michael’s classics with Carey’s vocals added posthumously, or an entirely new song she believes would stand among his timeless hits. Either way, it was meant to appear on her latest album. “I love it. I’m so upset that it’s not coming out on this album. It should be on it,” she said, adding that everyone who’s heard it has reacted with “wow.”

Carey and Michael previously collaborated on the 2001 charity single “What More Can I Give,” and she performed “I’ll Be There” at his memorial. The latter song was a number one in 1992 from her “MTV Unplugged” live recording. For now, fans can only hope this long-rumored duet, described by Carey as complete and ready to go, will eventually find its way to the world.
