Popular Culture Highway Gallery is proud to welcome to an upcoming reception legendary Disney animator Marc Davis, creator of such classic characters as Cruella De Ville, Maleficent and Tinkerbell. PCH will be co-hosting this special event with The Animation Celection, in conjunction with its annual Animation Art Auction at the PCH Gallery, 8776 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood, Los Angeles on Saturday, October 3rd.
Popular Culture Highway is a gallery specially committed to icons of the 20th Century with displays including Michael’s glitter glove, Elvis Presley’s sharkskin suit, Marilyn Monroe’s dress, and countless other collectables of popular culture.
Marc Davis is considered one of the most important names in the history of animation; Davis was honoured in 1989 with the prestigious ‘Disney Legend’ award. Beginning a career at Disney that spanned more than four decades, Davis got his start animating the characters of ‘Snow White’, ‘Alice in Wonderland’, ‘Sleeping Beauty’ and ‘Cinderella’.
Towards the end of his career, his creative talents were used to design Disneyland park attractions like ‘The Pirates of the Caribbean’, which Michael has said he particularly enjoys this attraction and ‘The Haunted Mansion’.
“You can’t be a fan of Walt Disney films without recognizing the genius of Marc Davis and his incredible contributions to the art of animation,” said Earl Kisluk, co-owner of The Animation Celection. Davis’ talent for animating the female form has been unequalled. Tinkerbell, one of his most popular creations, has become as recognizable around the world as Mickey Mouse.
This special preview, reception and ‘live’ auction is free to the public. Guests attending will be able to meet Davis as well as view an exhibit of his work during the auction’s preview and reception hours, 10 a.m. to noon. The `live’ auction will begin at 1 p.m. Refreshments will be served and hourly door prizes will be awarded to selected guests in attendance.
A selection of original and reproduced Davis artwork will be available for purchase for those wishing to obtain autographs and dedications.
