On Michael’s birthday, his only daughter, Paris Jackson, released a new song titled “The Breeze.” The track, which features a private recording of Michael at its close, was released alongside “Just Me and You” as a double single.
In an Instagram post, Paris explained:
It’s not a tribute. It’s not a commemoration. It’s not a demonstration of any kind. It is a letter. It is a poem of the sonic variety. It is my honest experience — with love, loss, and para-social relationships vs a personal one.
At its heart, “The Breeze” is about private grief: Paris missing her father as a person while the rest of the world continues to discuss, interpret and consume him as an icon.
The deeply personal track opens with the lyrics:
“Is that you hidden in the breeze?
Can you hear me?
I’m on my knees
Can we just talk for a second, please?
Just a sliver, a little piece”
Following a final chorus sung in a child’s voice, the song ends with audio from a private recording. Michael can be heard saying, “Love you, Paris. I love you, Paris!”, before a young Paris replies, “I love you.”
