A statement released yesterday from the Brazilian government said that Michael plans on building a family theme park in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
A detailed plan of the project was revealed to Governor Alencar on Monday June 22nd by two of Michael’s attorneys.
Construction of the massive 10,760,000 square-foot park is scheduled to begin in 1999 and could cost up to $800 million. The park, whose exact location and name will be announced next month, is expected to create 12,000 jobs.
Michael told Rio de Janeiro Governor Marcello Alencar that he wanted to build the park in that city because he felt “a special love for Rio and for the people of Brazil.”
In 1996, Michael taped the Brazilian version of his video ‘They Don’t Care About Us’ in the Santa Marta section of Rio.
Michael also has plans of constructing a park in Warsaw, Poland.
