At Julien’s Auction of Michael’s costumes, which took place in Los Angeles on Sunday, the auctioneer Darren Julien and his staff all wore sequined gloves.
Later Lady Gaga announced that she had personally bought 55 individual items, which she plans to keep, “archived and expertly cared for in the spirit and love of Michael Jackson, his bravery and fans worldwide.”
When the auction ended, Darren Julien said that the jacket worn by Michael during his ‘BAD’ tour fetched $240,000, and two of Michael’s gloves each sold for $100,000, as did other jackets and performance costumes.
The auction featuring the collection of Michael’s longtime costume designers Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush raised more than $5 million. Some proceeds benefited Guide Dogs of America and Nathan Adelson Hospice of Las Vegas. Carole Fisher, CEO of Nathan Adelson Hospice of Las Vegas, told Broadway World:
“It has been so incredible to be involved with this auction and the support we have received from Michael Bush and Darren Julien, as well as the late Dennis Tompkins.”
