Thousands of sky-gazers grooved to the beat Saturday night as Team Canada’s music filled fireworks show exploded over English Bay. The electric display accompanied by different renditions of Michael’s ‘Smooth Criminal, Phil Collins’ ‘Against All Odds,’ John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ and more marked the final night of Vancouver’s 21st annual Celebration of Light competition.
“I really liked it. The music and fireworks were so synchronised,” Vancouver resident Charmagne Camacho said of Team Canada’s performance.
Rounding out the three-night Battle of the Champions pyrotechnics competition Saturday, Team Canada focused their display, Then and Now, on music and how the meaning and emotions within a piece of music for example, different covers of ‘Smooth Criminal’ change over time.
A panel of judges were expected to rank Canada’s performance against the team’s two competitors, China and Spain, following the final performance Saturday.
