Anthony Edwards has impersonated Michael since he was continually being told how much he looked like him. He taught himself the songs and dance routines, worked on the look, the hair, the make-up and the costumes, practising ten hours a day.
In 1999 his wife Claire entered him as a contestant in ‘Stars In Their Eyes’, and his life changed.
When Michael died, Anthony and his wife were devastated as they had tickets to see the ‘This Is It’ tour. He said that it was like losing a brother. However, he is now inundated with work and has bookings throughout 2010, with expected earnings of £150,000. His costumes are on order from Thailand at a cost of £1200.
Anthony spends between forty and seventy hours a week “being” Michael and the rest of the time running a health club in Wales and a working at a kitchen installation business in Redditch.
His work has also seen him play to crowds of 7,500 at the NEC, enjoy summer-long stints in a swanky Corfu hotel and share the stage with Jasper Carrott.
