Sony/ATV Acquires Another Music Giant

Michael and Sony/ATV have announced that they have acquired another major song catalogue to add to their already gigantic holdings.

Famous Music LLC includes 125,000 songs, from classics to contemporary hits from stars like Shakira and Eminem. Michael has called this purchase a ‘milestone event’, and is delighted with the transaction.

Famous Music was founded in 1928 and is one of the largest independent music companies.

Martin Bandier, CEO and Chairman of Sony/ATV, thinks that; “The depth and breadth of the catalogue is what truly makes it great, and I strongly believe that the addition of the Famous catalogue and its songwriters to Sony/ATV is another step in our long-range growth plans. In addition, we are pleased to be entering the production music business through Famous’ Extreme division. Extreme’s valuable creative team and unique business model will be a terrific complement to our core music publishing business.”

The catalogues owned by Famous Music included Bjork, Boyz 2 Men, Duke Ellington, Bush and Beck, to name but a few. Also purchased are songs by Akon, Shapiro and Buster Rhymes, among many others.

This acquisition follows on the heels of the purchase of the Lieber/Stoller legendary catalogue by Sony/ATV.

All of this is good news for Michael who is, of course, co-owner of Sony/ATV.
