The Smithsonian in Washington DC is to open a black history museum in the future and is planning to bring New York’s Harlem to Washington. The first exhibit focuses on the famous Apollo Theatre and will be open on Friday, April 23rd at the National Museum of American History.
As a young child, Michael and his brothers, the Jackson 5, won the theater’s Amateur Night in 1967. One of the memorabilia items on display will be Michael’s trademark fedora.
Other items will be an Ella Fitzgerald’s dress and Louis Armstrong’s trumpet.
