The drop in CD sales has prompted commercial radio chart Hit 40 UK to rethink it’s compilation of official singles figures. At present 96% of the actual figures from which the chart is compiled are accounted for by downloads. Global Radio, owner of the chart show, has decided to go totally digital from this weekend, as the figures prove that downloads are now the ‘driving force’ behind singles sales.
The show, which is broadcast on a Sunday, is available online and attracts 1.9 million listeners.
Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot said; “We are delighted to be working with the commercial radio sector to take the chart into the future.”
