This morning Mark Lester, former child star, and long time friend of Michael, who starred in the musical ‘Oliver’, appeared on the UK breakfast show GMTV.
The following are excerpts from his answers to questions about the recent documentary ‘Living With Michael Jackson’.
He said; ” I thought it opened very well like a glitzy ‘Hello’ article then it turned into something very contrived and full of innuendos and quite nasty. … All is totally innocent and he was bringing joy into that boy’s heart.”
When asked if his children [he has four] had been to Neverland, he replied; “I have taken Felix to Neverland and stayed for several days. He has given joy to millions of people, the things he has done for charity you just wouldn’t believe and this wasn’t shown on the documentary.
I have spoken to him and he’s very, very upset by the way Martin Bashir has turned this documentary for Martin Bashir’s own gain whatever that might be. Presumably monetary gain.”
When asked if Michael should change anything, he replied; “Michael should do what Michael does because it comes from his heart and he doesn’t need people to tell him what to do. Michael does what he does and what he does is beautiful.”
When asked if Michael had discussed the documentary with him he said; “I was with him last week, I spent a few days in America. He always presumed he was opening up his life so that people could see what was going on at Neverland, what was going on with him, with his performances.”
Asked about Michael’s children, he revealed; “I was with him in Berlin when it happened, it was one of those spur of the moment things. Michael just picked the baby up. Michael would never hurt a child, let alone his own children. He loves his children. I’ve met the children several times, they are highly intelligent and very well cared for.”
