Welcome!

TV or video images of Michael arriving at airports around the world to a rapturous reception from a huge crowd of fans, are a familiar sight. This kind of warm welcome are part of Michael’s life in the spotlight, and have been since he began travelling around the World with the Jackson 5 to the present day. During a recent interview Liverpool F.C’s goalie, Sander Westerveld, compared his team’s recent welcome at Singapore to one of Michael’s famous airport ‘fan greetings’ when he said the following;

“Now I know how Michael Jackson must feel! The welcome we received when we landed in Singapore on Saturday was so amazing that it will live in my memory for ever.

We had a 13-hour journey to get here, having flown from Manchester to Amsterdam originally, and it was tiring because I can never sleep on planes. We arrived at 7.30 in the morning and the number of people who were waiting for us was unbelievable. Many of them had already been there for two hours…

Sunday was an easy day until our evening training session. I had gone in a taxi with Jari Litmanen and Emile Heskey to do a signing session in the Hard Rock Cafe, as all of us have had to do.

But the place was so busy we had to leave a bit earlier than had been planned. Everybody was rushing to get autographs and pictures. That’s why I say I know how Michael Jackson must feel when he goes anywhere.”
