Darrin Henson

Choreographer Darrin Henson spoke about Michael’s influence on his dance, when he was a guest earlier this year on the Monday Night Backstage Chat of the Voice of Dance web site.

In her introduction, chat host Genevieve Turcotte said that Darrin Henson learned to dance by watching Michael Jackson videos with a mirror next to the TV. During the chat, Henson answered questions pertaining to Michael.

The following are excerpts from the chat;

Question: Have you dreamed of working with one special group or artist?

Darrin Henson: Not really. I have worked with Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, and a ton of really cool artists. So I am fortunate to be working with all of them. So as long I keep doing what I am doing I am happy!

Question: Did you go to a dance school and if so… Where?

Darrin Henson: No, I studied all Michael Jackson’s videos and that is how I got my moves.

Question: Darrin, has it been intimidating to work with people like Prince and Michael Jackson?

Darrin Henson: No, Prince is a great dancer and a great person. He knows what he wants and can move great. Michael is also a great dancer. He loves to listen to the moves and then, in seconds, he is dancing just like you want.

Darrin Henson has worked for Michael, The Spice Girls, Britney Spears, N’Sync, The Artist Formerly Known As Prince, among others. In 1999, he was nominated for ‘Best Dance Video’ by the MTV Music Awards for his choreography on Jordan Knight’s ‘Give It To You’ video. The complete transcript of the chat is available at Voice of Dance.
