SF Gate reported the following on April 1st;
Savage Garden digs ’80s pop; In the final minutes of Thursday’s Fillmore show, Savage Garden singer-songwriter Darren Hayes decided it was time to get funky. “We’re the Jackson 5 now!” he told the crowd of cheering fans, then cut loose with some flawlessly dorky soul-man manoeuvres.
Seeing Australia’s premier pop band paying homage to the Jackson 5 might have looked odd, but it made sense. Hayes and his partner, guitarist-instrumentalist Daniel Jones, excel in ’80s synth rock rather than bubble-gum soul, but like Michael and his brothers, they are simply too good to be dismissed as an ephemeral teenybop phenomenon…
By the time the 50-minute set wrapped, Savage Garden had successfully tested the waters for its US tour in July, intrigued the uninitiated and turned out a TV special [for the Disney Channel] certain to cement its appeal to the younger set. Not bad for less than an hour’s work, even if Hayes never learns to dance like Michael.
