Dreams

A duck? That’s the fantasy of a boy named Dewby in the new Debbie Allen production ‘Dreams’, which opens at the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theatre on April 7th.

This latest show follows three previous Allen works commissioned by the Kennedy Centre and performed to sold out audiences – ‘Pepito’s Story’, ‘Brothers of the Knight’ and ‘Soul Possessed’.

‘Dreams’ explores the stories of seven young people as they dance and sing and imagine their way into the 21st century. Set to original songs by Allen and Diane Louie as well as the music of Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey and Isaac Hayes, the production substitutes video footage projected on large screens for more traditional sets. With the help of three smart aleck ‘dream catchers’ who serve as narrators, the show’s lead dancers contemplate what it would be like to be a high fashion model and designer, a marine biologist, a filmmaker, an astronaut, an ecologist, a prophet and – yes – a duck.
