Michael and Santana Tie

On February 24th MJIFC reported the following;

At the 26th Annual Grammy Awards, held in early 1984, Michael won a record of 8 Grammy awards, the most Grammys won by an artist in one year. He won seven Grammys for ‘Thriller’ and one for ‘E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial’ as best recording for children.

Michael alone has held the record of winning most Grammy awards in one year for sixteen years.

Carlos Santana, a 52-year-old Mexican-born guitarist, tied Michael’s record at the 42nd Grammy ceremony, held last night, when he also won 8 awards for his album ‘Supernatural’. Thus, these two artists now share the distinguished record for winning most Grammy awards in one year.

Santana told reporters backstage that it was “a real honour” to tie Michael’s record.
