Barry Manilow has told Entertainment Tonight of his very high regard for “one of history’s greatest entertainers’, saying that he was happy to be in the world when Michael was in the world.

In 1984, Michael had asked Barry to do some work for him at the American Music Awards. Barry had chosen to sing a medley of Michael’s older songs, including ‘Ben’, although he changed the name to ‘Michael’ He said that it was so much fun and that it felt as though he was singing it to Michael alone.

He added that he was going to celebrate Michael, and not listen to anything else that was being said about him, he would just

“turn off the rest”.
